Challenge
The growing demand for lithium-ion batteries on vehicles requires highly automated and reliable production. A critical point is the welding of the battery cell connections, which determines the performance of the battery. Each weld point must be checked and the result documented. Since production lines often have more than 35 read/write positions, classic RFID systems incur high costs. An efficient and cost-effective solution is needed.
Solution
TURCK's HF bus mode RFID solution ensures cost-effective traceability of production quality. The test result for welding cell connections is written directly to RFID tags that are attached under the product. Thanks to HF bus mode, up to 32 read/write devices can be operated on a single RFID port of the TBEN-S2-2RFID-4DXP interface. This reduces the cost per read position while maintaining production speed. Reading RFID tags is triggered by inductive sensors. If a tag is not detected, the system automatically signals a faulty or missing tag in order to detect errors at an early stage. The TBEN-S2-2RFID-4DXP interface connects RFID readers and sensors and communicates with the controller via Profinet, Ethernet/IP or Modbus TCP without any additional configuration effort. This keeps the solution highly flexible and scalable.

"HF bus mode from TURCK enables efficient and cost-effective scaling of RFID systems in battery production."
