Challenge
In high-traffic logistics centers, packages can stick to metal conveyor components with strong magnets and cause jams. These lead to system downtime, damaged conveyor lines, and increased costs. The goal is to identify these packages early and remove them from the material flow before they disrupt the main conveying process.
Solution
The CMMT condition monitoring sensor detects changes in magnetic flux density across three axes without contact, even during the infeed stage. Strategically placed sensors identify packages containing strong magnets before they reach the main conveyor line . If the magnetic field exceeds a defined threshold, the sensor transmits the information to the controller via IO-Link.
This triggers the targeted ejection of the affected package, while the rest of the material flow continues uninterrupted. An additional visual signal informs the operating personnel of the separate handling.
Thanks to flexible mounting without fixed alignment, the sensors can be integrated in a space-saving manner—even between conveyor rollers. Parameterization and commissioning are carried out efficiently via the TURCK Automation Suite, including graphical visualization and batch configuration. In this way, the solution sustainably increases system availability and reduces unplanned downtime.
