Decentralized muting of an optical protective device
Hybrid safety I/O module ensures efficient material flow and full safety functionality directly at the machine

Benefits
Shorter time to market thanks to advance testing of the modular protective device
Higher system availability, as safety functions are controlled on a decentralized basis and do not shut down the entire system
IP67 protection and increased temperature range allow flexibility in the installation of I/O modules
IO-Link master ports enable the system to be expanded with additional components
Challenge
Non-contact protective devices (BWS) secure the hazardous area, but process-relevant objects such as containers must be able to pass through these safely. To do this, the protective device must be bridged in a targeted manner ( muting ) without impacting the safety functionality. A decentralized control solution can ensure tamper-proof safety and transit of the containers.
Solution
TURCK's safety TBPN and TBIP IP67 I/O modules control the safety and muting -functions directly at the machine. The safety light grid remains active until a container is pushed into the feed area. As soon as a container triggers four inductive sensors in the correct sequence, the light grid is bridged ( muting ). Additional tamper protection is provided by measuring the weight or height of the carriage and RFID identification.
The modules in hybrid or full safety mode ensure short response times and reduce wiring costs. Their decentralized intelligence enables modular system concepts that minimize the risk of complete system downtime by maintaining safety functions in non-affected areas. Pre-testing functionality facilitates commissioning and shortens time to market. With IO-Link master ports, additional components can be easily integrated, while IP67 protection and a wide temperature range enable use in harsh environments.

"Our Safety -I/O modules combine maximum safety with minimal installation effort for flexible, decentralized solutions directly on the machine."
