Intrinsically safe Ethernet gateway for Zone 1
With the GEN-2G gateway for its high-availability excom I/O system, TURCK is the first manufacturer to introduce intrinsically safe, copper-based Ethernet into ATEX Zone 1
Benefits
Cost-effective, as existing I/O modules can continue to be used
Quick and easy integration into existing excom installations
Transparent communication via standard protocols
Future-proof thanks to parallel data communication for IIoT, monitoring and diagnostics
High system availability thanks to various redundancy concepts
TURCK introduces a new solution for Ethernet communication in potentially explosive areas. For the first time, the multiprotocol gateway GEN-2G enables an integrated, intrinsically safe, and copper-based Ethernet infrastructure in ATEX Zone 1. The new solution extends the existing excom system with the GEN-3G Zone 2 gateway, which means that, even in Zone 1, it is easy to switch from Profibus-DP to Ethernet communication – without the need to replace I/O and sensor level.
Simple installation and end-to-end system landscape
Communication between non-hazardous and hazardous areas takes place via fiber-optic cables using TURCK's FOCEN11Ex-2G and FOCEN11-3G media converters, over distances of up to 2,500 m. From there, multiple excom stations can be intrinsically safely integrated into Zone 1 via copper cables. This eliminates the need for complex point-to-point installation of each station via fiber-optic cables, which was previously the norm. The GEN-2G multiprotocol gateway with hot swap even allows plugging and unplugging during operation without a fire certificate. With the GEN-2G, existing excom installations can also be quickly and cost-effectively converted to Ethernet communication and upgraded to ensure they are future-proof.
Global and maritime approvals
International approvals such as ATEX, IECEx , CCC and others as well as maritime approvals (DNV, BV, LR, ABS, KR) extend the application range of the system. The solution enables easy connection of sensors and actuators as well as the integration of HART data for diagnostics and IIoT applications. As the entire excom range has system approval for hazardous areas, extensions do not need to be accepted again; this can be carried out by users themselves.
