Angle measurement on a crop sprayer
Contactless QR20 encoders increase the reliability of crop sprayers thanks to high environmental and vibration resistance

Benefits
Contactless encoders for wear-free, reliable position detection of sprayer booms
An extremely compact housing and a magnetic-free operating principle enable installation in confined steel structures
High electromagnetic compatibility ensures continuous, interference-free operation
Challenge
When applying crop protection products, the spray arms of field sprayers must be precisely aligned. However, conventional rotary encoders or potentiometers are subject to wear and tear and, due to their design, react to continuous shock, vibration, or dirt. A reliable, durable solution is required to ensure the operation of the machines even under harsh conditions and to avoid unplanned downtime.
Solution
TURCK's RI360P1-QR20 non-contact rotary encoders measure the angle of the spray arms precisely and wear-free. Thanks to the inductive measuring method, the sensor operates without a mechanical connection between the sensor and position encoder, which ensures high shock and vibration resistance. Even strong vibrations or sudden movements do not affect the measuring accuracy.
Due to its high EMC immunity, the rotary encoder is protected against voltage spikes, known as load dump effects, and remains reliable even under extreme conditions. The robust IP68/IP69K housing withstands salt spray, high-pressure cleaning, and aggressive liquids such as diesel or kerosene.
The QR20 encoder can even be mounted in confined metal environments without compromising its measurement accuracy. This allows for easy and flexible adaptation to almost any application . Developed in collaboration with leading agricultural machinery manufacturers, the QR20 offers maximum reliability for modern agricultural technology.

"Our QR20 encoder combines precise angle measurement with maximum robustness — perfect for demanding agricultural applications."
